Packsaddle Parts DescriptionDecker Pack Saddles are rugged, versatile pack saddles that are easy to load. Our Decker Pack Saddles, designed in the classic style, are the pride of the Outfitters shop and built to last a lifetime of hard packing. Special attention to craftsmanship makes our Decker Pack Saddle a favorite of the US Forest Service, park rangers, game wardens, outfitters and serious packers.
The Classic half-breed is made from 24 oz. canvas, reinforced with top-quality latigo leather and stuffed with one inch of Duratex synthetic padding to help absorb the pressure of the load. The bars are shaped in the classic O.P. Robinette style and fit most average horses and mules. A one by four pine bar on each side of the half-breed spreads the weight of the packs across the pack animal's ribs.
The hardware in our pack saddles is solid brass, chrome-plated, with the exception of the rigging rings and breeching dees, which are nickel-plated steel for strength. There are always ways to improve a product; however, we have found nothing better for the rigging than leather. We handpick from the very best available, Hermann Oak Old World Harness leather. Rolled leather on our Decker Pack Saddle breast collar and breeching prevents chafing and soring. We have added roller buckles on the quarter straps for easy adjustment of the breeching. The rigging on our Decker Pack Saddle is fully adjustable so you can place your cinch at any one of several positions that best suits your pack stock.
